PASSIONATE ABOUT CLASSIC FILM
My name is Paul and I am a classic film enthusiast. I have always been passionate about classic film ever since I was a young boy back in Donegal, Ireland, back in the early seventies.
As a fully qualified teacher, I have worked in education for many years, teaching English, History and Film Studies.
I love writing about classic film as much as I love talking about it. I have written quite a lot of articles and pieces about the subject. I have even written a couple of screenplays which I submitted both to various film competitions. Despite positive feedback, especially for my second screenplay, I did not win. But I will try again.
My favourite screenwriters of all time are Robert Riskin, Ernest Lehman, Billy Wilder and Francis Ford Coppola.
In my opinion, The American Film Institute (AFI), The British Film Institute (BFI) and The Irish Film Institute (IFI) are the best film organisations in the world. I have been a loyal member of the BFI for years.
My biggest claim to fame is meeting Audrey Hepburn at the UNICEF Children’s Day in Dublin back in 1988. Audrey was genuinely lovely.
I live in Birmingham in England with my sweetheart. We met in London 25 years ago and she has made me the happiest man in the world.
Classic Film Journal relates to the films from the Golden Age of Hollywood, which lasted from the silent era in the 20s to the early 60s. But my website should also be about any classic movie.
That's about it really. I simply wish that everybody could be as passionate about classic film as I am.
